Karin (Ph.D.) is an Austrian artist, art mediator and academic, and works as a senior lecturer at the department of Textile Arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Her research interests are the practical and theoretical exploration and development of the textile element as a specific mediality, with regard to its appearance and significance in art and culture. Theory and practise always relate to, extend and deepen each other. For more than over a decade now, she has been researching the interconnectedness between art and spirituality. This line of research has been pursued in her diploma thesis, and in her doctoral thesis on Bhutan’s Textile Arts, for which she spent almost an entire year in Bhutan.
Through the medium of textiles, Karin provides insights into Bhutan’s cosmology, worldview, culture, and society, which are associated with a variety of historical, philosophical, religious, social and artistic perspectives. Her book Fabric of Life – Textile Arts in Bhutan has been published by De Gruyter in 2015.
